EHS - Sitter

• Provide constant observation (line of sight) of the assigned as per suicide prevention protocol.

• Remain physically present and alert at all times during the assigned shift.

• Monitor and document the patient's activity, behavior, and condition at designated intervals (i.e., every 15 minutes or as directed). 

• Immediately alert medical and custody staff of any safety concerns, signs of distress, or attempts of self-harm. 

• Ensure the individual does not access or use any items that could be used for self-injury.

• Maintain a safe, calm, and non-threatening presence to reduce agitation or escalation. 

• Follow facility policies regarding contraband, clothing restrictions, and suicide-resistant environments. 

• Participate in handoff communication between shifts to ensure continuity of observation. 

• Complete required observation logs and incident reports accurately and in a timely manner.

• Maintain professional boundaries and refrain from therapeutic or disciplinary interaction.

• Adhere to all facility rules, safety procedures, and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED

• Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, corrections, or security preferred.

• Completion of suicide prevention or crisis intervention training.

• Must be able to remain alert, seated or standing, for extended periods.

• Must pass a background check and meet facility security clearance requirements.
